LOUISVILLE URBAN VOICE
|
About This Magazine | ||||
| Louisville
Urban Voice began September 6, 1996 as a two page newsletter at the
University of Louisville. The original purpose was to provide a forum
where African-American students could freely exchange concepts and ideas
that were often overlooked by the college’s newspaper, which lacked
students of color on staff.
The newsletter, while crude in appearance, was an instant hit with professors and students, regardless of race. Students would often ask the founder “When is the next issue published?,” professors would often offer suggestions on how to improve the content to appeal to a broader audience. Five years later, the publication has evolved to a publication that circulates citywide FREE of charge. It enjoys a readership of people from all walks of life due to its coverage of diverse topics.. Articles featured in LUV magazine cover such topics as Health, Career and Job Market opportunities, Investment Practices, Top Websites, Poetry, Short Stories and more. Contained on this site is the current cover story reprinted in its entirety and 3 brief excerpts from randomly chosen department for you to enjoy. To receive the full version of LUV magazine, double-click the link underneath the cover. What began as a newsletter of exclusion is now a magazine of inclusion-- perhaps that is why the publication grew at such a rapid pace. Visit our FREE pick up points or have LUV delivered to your home or office. Enjoy your visit to LUV magazine online. Come back again around November 15, 2001. Thanks! |

| This
issue marks our 5th. Anniversary Issue and judging from the community
response, it is a winner. Our cover story profiles Monica Hardin, a
young lady who competed represented Kentucky in the Miss America
contest. Also in this issue is a congratulatory letter from Mayor Dave
Armstrong.
The terrorist event which needlessly ended so many lives, however, caused me to take a broader look at the mission of this publication and life in general. While every day may not be filled with calmness and serenity, I think we owe it to ourselves to seek out these basic elements of happiness. My job with LUV is to work with our fantastic crew of contributing writers and marketing director to produce a positive, upbeat publication. I would be lying, however, if I stated I am not still deeply saddened by the enormity of the terrorist event. The staff’s heart and my own go out to everyone directly and indirectly effected by this tragedy. May God look over us all. Tyrone D. Lockhart, Editor of LUV |
